In The News: Young Frankenstein

Excerpt from the Custer County Chronicle by Jason Ferguson:

"When I saw the shows scheduled for the Black Hills Playhouse this summer, “Young Frankenstein” was far and away the one I was looking forward to most.

Prior to the show, director Matt Nesmith said he was drawn to the script for a number of reasons, including the great characters, physical comedy and dance. Yes, “Young Frankenstein” is a musical with plenty of singing and dancing, so if you go, don’t expect a remake of the 1974 movie starring Gene Wilder.

I don’t want to give away much of the play, but two scenes are absolutely my favorites: one involves a wagon ride and the other involves Frau and Igor trying to cover up the infidelity of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein and Inga from Frankenstein’s visiting fiancee, Elizabeth. Elizabeth, played by Lera Zamaraeva, sings a song for the ages in the play, but I can’t say much about it in our family-friendly newspaper. But it alone is worth the price of a ticket.

I enjoyed everything about this play. It’s visually entertaining, it’s well acted, the music is excellent—there’s nothing not to like. If you want to laugh — a lot — then you should definitely check “Young Frankenstein” out. You won’t regret it. The show will run at the Playhouse through July 16. It’s alive!"
